Relive an Epic Polynesian Voyage with a Detailed Hokule’a Canoe Replica
Hokule'a was born in 1974 when the Polynesian Voyaging Society proposed to build a replica of an ancient Polynesian voyaging canoe. The society wanted to attempt a round-trip voyage between Hawaii and Tahiti. The voyage's purpose was to study Polynesian non-instrument navigation. Since its first, and successful voyage in 1976, Hokule'a and its crew have crossed the Pacific Ocean many times. Each model is a hand-crafted, custom-made work of art crafted with local woods by Hawaiian artists.
